- Batman is a comic book character created by artist Bob Kane and developed by writer Bill Finger. He first appeared in the comic book magazine "Detective Comics" in 1939. The publisher, "DC Comics," was later named after this magazine and is now owned by Time Warner.
Batman's role models were the fictional characters Zorro, D'Artagnan from The Three Musketeers, and Sherlock Holmes. The comic book character The Shadow also influenced the creators of Batman. According to Bill Finger, the name Bruce Wayne derives from the Scottish freedom fighter Robert the Bruce and the American national hero Mad Anthony Wayne.
- Since 1940, Batman has not used firearms for two reasons: firstly, to distance himself from the criminals he hunts, and secondly, the creators were afraid that young people might imitate Batman.
- "The Dark Knight" has received over 40 awards from over 90 nominations to date. Heath Ledger won eleven of these for his portrayal of the Joker. Among other honors, he was posthumously awarded the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
- Filming lasted from April 18 to November 11, 2007. Chicago was chosen as the filming location for Batman's Gotham City. Other locations included London and Hong Kong.
- Batman's suit has been completely redesigned and improved for flexibility and greater comfort. The new Batsuit is constructed from 200 individual pieces made of rubber, fiberglass, nylon, and metallic mesh.
- For the Joker's makeup, a completely new silicone-based process was used, allowing mask parts to be seamlessly attached to the skin. This technique took two years to develop.
