- Batman is a comic book character conceived by artist Bob Kane and developed by writer Bill Finger, who first appeared in the comic magazine "Detective Comics" in 1939. This magazine later gave its name to its publisher "DC Comics", which is now owned by Time Warner.
- Role models for Batman were the novel characters Zorro, D'Artagnan of the Three Musketeers, and Sherlock Holmes. The comic character The Shadow also influenced the creators of Batman. According to Bill Finger, the name Bruce Wayne goes back to the Scottish freedom fighter Robert the Bruce and the American national hero Mad Anthony Wayne.
- Since 1940, Batman no longer uses firearms for the following two reasons: on the one hand, to distinguish himself from the criminals he hunts, and on the other hand, the creators were afraid that young people might imitate Batman.
- "The Dark Knight" has received over 40 awards out of more than 90 nominations so far. Heath Ledger alone received eleven of these for his portrayal of the Joker. Among other things, he was posthumously awarded the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
- Filming took place from April 18 to November 11, 2007. Chicago was chosen as the filming location for Batman's city, Gotham City. Other locations included London and Hong Kong.
- Batman's suit was completely redesigned and improved in terms of flexibility and wearing comfort. The new Bat-Suit was made from 200 individual parts, consisting of rubber, fiberglass, nylon, and metallic mesh.
- A completely new silicone-based process was used for the Joker's makeup, which made it possible to apply mask parts seamlessly to the skin. The development of this technique took two years.
