One Piece posters and merchandise

The internationally successful anime series One Piece has been around since 1997. The manga series One Piece was created by mangaka Eiichiro Oda. The story follows the Straw Hat Pirates, led by the pirate Monkey D. Luffy, as they search for the legendary treasure One Piece. The comic books have already set multiple sales records in Japan. Worldwide, One Piece is the best-selling manga series in history.
In addition to the exciting search for the One Piece, flashbacks provide insight into the backstories of the individual characters. The core team includes the childlike leader Monkey D. Luffy, the skilled swordsman Roronoa Zoro, the spirited Nami, the weapons expert Usopp, the sure-footed Sanji, the human-reindeer Tony Chopper, the archaeologist Nico Robin, the cyborg Franky, and the skeleton Brook.
Unlike most pirates, the Straw Hat Pirates do not kill their enemies. Eiichiro Oda explains this by saying that their defeated enemies suffer the end of their dreams and beliefs anyway. Thus, some enemies may return (often with positive motives) over the course of the story.

Know-it-all with Close Up – Facts and Fun Facts about One Piece:
- In the American version, Sanji's cigarette was replaced by a lollipop.
- Luffy, Ace and Garp suffer from narcolepsy.
- Nico Robin's look was inspired by Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction. God Enel is based on Eminem.
- Edward Newgate only has scars on his chest, not on his back. This means he never left a battle.
- Most of the members of the Straw Hat Pirates were adopted.
- Zorro was actually supposed to be a member of Buggy's crew.
- Chapter 547 is the first half of the One Piece manga.
- There's a crossover with Dragon Ball. Luffy can ride Son Goku's cloud there, which means he has a pure heart.
- The Devil Fruits, which grant the characters special and, above all, unique abilities in the series, cost around 100,000,000 Berries on the open market in the series universe. Only the first person to bite into a Devil Fruit can benefit from it. After that, the fruit instantly transforms into ordinary fruit. This ensures that there are never two people with the same ability.
- The series' intro describes the execution of Gol D. Roger, who, in the hour of his death, gives the public a tip about an unimaginably large treasure. From that moment, a new era of piracy begins.
